In the summer of 2013 a unique collaboration was begun between Yi and established British artist Chris Gollon. The outcome is an extraordinary work of art and music and an in-depth look at the relationship between colour, music, rhythm and rhyme in both art forms.

"And it came to Pass" is a 40ft artistic and musical work in eight 5ft panels, encompassing the Seven Ages of Man.

The work was jointly created by both artists: Chris Gollon painted a panel and discussed it with Yi Yao who then composed a piece of music inspired by what she saw and heard. Chris then took the music to revisit his art and to create the next panel, and Yi did the same for her composition. This two-way traffic of musical and artistic inspiration occurred eight times, once for each panel. The result is both a painting and a 30 minute musical suite: but each is also an integral part of the other. The work is a fusion of the two art forms that subtly interplay with each other to create a greater whole.

The work will be performed for the first time on June 10th in central London, and will be performed twice each evening at the Henley Festival, 9th-13th July 2014.
